Horror Trailer
Silent Hill
I chose to feature this trailer as it is a film I've watched in the past due to seeing the trailer before hand. I find it interesting that the film is firstly based on a game rather than a thought out movie. The trailer stars out seemingly normal with calm family moments, however the horror genre is almost immediately introduced as the female character is talking about her daughters dreams that she doesn't remember. The next scene is set in the dark of a car is a desolate area. Although this is a modern trailer it still features some classical features of the horror genre. Missing children, evil children and a crazy character are all used, the latter to explain to those who don't believe.
At first the only sound is dialogue between the mother and daughter, but after the crash the non diagetic sound starts, beginning with high notes on a piano. She shouting of 'Sharron' is repeated this being the name of the lost daughter and her calls for help. A call is made to her husband and we see his confused expression and his request for help to find his family.
Straight after this horror traits start to appear, interference on the radio, loss of cell phone coverage, a swerving car with screeching tyres, an almost transparent figure of a girl in the road, fog, the disappearance of the daughter and many more. The clip includes 'monsters' and mutant being chasing the main female while she hunts for her daughter. The majority of the shots are cuts as we see the woman looking for her daughter and later the various clips of what once happened to the town that as once normal, there was a fire destroying the town making it uninhabitable. The word 'evil' is in bold and crearly significant. 'mysteries without aswers' ' secrets without explanation' the film is clearly on of mysery and a hidden past. The ominous warning bell sound is featured many times in the trailer and is key to the film, whilst the music builds up tension towards the end where the female character is trapped by mutant beings. This shot fades and the tittle fades in in light streaks like being cut into rust metal - which applies to a scene in the movie.
