Differences between teaser trailer and a theatrical trailer

Teaser Trailer

  • Generally last under a minute.
  • Don't give away too much of the plot line.
  • Creates mistery or confusion for the viewers.
  • Builds up suspence to leave views asking questions and wanting more
  • Oftern only feature pictures or a 'tag line' from the movie with ominous texts.
  • Sometimes don't actually include futtage from the movie.
  • More commonly used for big budget films with a larger build up/fan base (eg. Saw films)

Theatrical Trailer

  • A great deal longer than teasers
  • Give away more of the plot
  • Allows viewer to engage with protagonist
  • Shows features from the genre to appeal to target audience
  • Released closer to the release date of the movie
  • Contains more footage from the movie
